Digital Marketing

What is Digital Marketing?

Digital marketing is any form of marketing that occurs on the internet. The advertising form involves digital channels in the search engine, mail, and social media to connect to current and future customers.

Digital marketing is important for brand awareness and image. Most brands nowadays have landing pages, websites and/or social media platforms. Digital marketing has become so common and is integrated into any customer’s decision-making process, thus it is expected of a company to use it.

Benefits of using digital marketing

  • Cost efficient - digital marketing gives you complete control over how much to spend on your campaigns and when to stop funding them. Unlike outbound marketing like a billboard where the cost is fixed, digital marketing is more flexible. Brands and businesses can get started right away by simply creating a social media account.
  • Measurable - metrics to content performance are available for interpretation. Some important data can help you amend your strategies like impression, share, views, clicks, and time on the page.
  • Increase conversion - Being able to analyse the performance of each campaign will provide you with the ability to continuously refine your marketing strategies.

Types of digital marketing

Many digital marketing forms have been developed to cater for all types of businesses. Depending on the stage and preferences, you can choose to use one or more digital marketing platforms at once.

  1. Social media marketing

Social media marketing is one of the most common and cost-effective types. Almost all businesses and companies have a social media account. This is where you can post information about your products, as well as the events you are highlighting.

The scope of social media marketing goes further than just posting content. Marketers must plan to be consistent with their content and designs. Marketing strategies are needed to fully optimise the breadth of social media.

Social media analytics is an amazing feature to understand your customers. Social media marketers must analyse the performance of their posts and come up with strategies based on the data.

  1. Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)

SEO helps rank the business higher on search engine (Google, Bing, Safari,...) results. To accomplish organic traffic to your website, marketers need to research common keywords and phrases that consumers use. From there, they can apply these keywords to the website content. Achievement of marketing goals can be made through consistent updates in content like blogs, product updates, and glossary pages.

Content marketing denotes the use of storytelling and copywriting to tell a story and increase brand awareness. These promotions of content assets are used to improve traffic growth while optimising SEO keywords. The main business goal is to provide value and lead consumers to conversion (e.g sign up for mailing list, make purchases)

In 2021, 82% of marketers said they are actively using content marketing to bring leads and close sales. Obviously, the content must be engaging to establish a sustainable and trusting relationship.

  1. Email Marketing

Brands use email marketing to inform and communicate with current and potential customers about discounts and events and direct them to the business website.

Some strategies can actively improve click-through rate like:

Create a Sense of Urgency – Draft emails to inform recipients that time is running out on a special deal or there are only a limited number of entries. (An example: “5 hours left to our special discount!”)

Personalise Your Email – When addressing names, the recipient will feel valued and called out. Create subject lines that incorporate the recipient’s name to increase open rates. (An example: “Stephanie, a special discount just for you.”)

  1. Pay-per-Click

Pay-per-click (PPC) is an online marketing system where advertisers pay publishing platforms every time their advertisement is clicked on. This allows your advertisement to be displayed on search engine result pages (SERP) when someone searches for a specific keyword. Some of the popular platforms that offer PPC include search engines and social networks like Facebook. When properly used, PPC is an efficient way into ads and increases the conversion rate.

  1. Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing or known as influencer marketing - has become popular across social media platforms. This form of marketing bridges the gap between consumers and organisations. The use of influencers creates credibility and a sense of belonging to the brands.
